Emerging Guyanese Poet Jamella Chesney’s Poem Published in Commonwealth Foundation’s adda Magazine

Georgetown, Guyana, October 2, 2024 – Jamella Chesney, an emerging poet from Guyana, is proud to announce the publication of her poem Mama Said (No Back Chat) in the Commonwealth Foundation’s online magazine, adda. The poem, inspired by Jamaica Kincaid’s Girl, offers a powerful reflection on the upbringing of girls in Christian Caribbean households, exploring themes of control, shame, silence, and survival, shaped by the teachings of women across generations.
