Jamaica’s Rachel Scott Named Proenza Schouler’s Creative Director

Proenza Schouler is turning the page on a new chapter with Jamaican-born designer Rachel Scott taking the creative reins.

On Tuesday, the American luxury brand announced Scott, founder and designer of the critically acclaimed womenswear label Diotima, as its new creative director. The appointment was revealed via the brand’s official Instagram account, where the company shared:

“Proenza Schouler is thrilled to announce the appointment of Rachel Scott as Creative Director. Long recognized as a brand synonymous with craft and New American Luxury, Proenza Schouler enters a new chapter with Rachel Scott at the helm. She brings a global design perspective, vast technical knowledge, and a distinctive new voice that aligns seamlessly with Proenza Schouler’s brand DNA.”

Scott will oversee all categories for the house — from ready-to-wear and White Label, to handbags and footwear. Her debut collection will be unveiled in February 2026 during New York Fashion Week with the brand’s fall 2026 season, though the industry will get an early glimpse of her vision as she collaborates on the upcoming spring 2026 collection.

Scott officially began on August 15, succeeding Proenza Schouler co-founders Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, who stepped down earlier this year after more than two decades at the helm. The duo, who remain shareholders and board members, have since been tapped to lead Loewe following Jonathan Anderson’s departure.

“As one of the most celebrated design talents of today, Rachel brings a fresh and female perspective to a brand built on the spirit of the modern American woman,” said Shira Suveyke Snyder, Chief Executive Officer. “Her profound understanding of Proenza Schouler’s brand codes, paired with her exceptional ability to marry craft with innovation, made her the natural choice to lead the house forward.”

“It is with great excitement that I join Proenza Schouler, a brand at the heart of American fashion, and one I have long admired,” Scott said. “I hold deep respect for the beauty and world Jack and Lazaro so brilliantly crafted, and I look forward to bringing my perspective in dialogue with their legacy. I am grateful to Shira for her trust and I am honoured to step into this role to envision the next chapter of Proenza Schouler.”

Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Scott has become one of the most compelling new voices in fashion by centring the Caribbean in global conversations on luxury. Since launching Diotima in 2021, she has carved out a distinct niche blending sharp tailoring, crochet craftsmanship, and artisanal embellishment that speak to both heritage and modernity. Her work has been recognised across the industry: she was awarded American Womenswear Designer of the Year at the 2024 CFDA Awards, following her win as Emerging Designer of the Year in 2023, and more recently received the Fashion Trust U.S. ready-to-wear award in 2025.

Scott, who will continue designing for Diotima alongside her new role, is expected to bring a Caribbean sensibility of craft, community and innovation to Proenza Schouler’s DNA — a move that could reshape how American luxury is defined in the coming years.

For Jamaica and the Caribbean, her rise signals something equally profound: a designer bringing the region’s voice, craftsmanship and perspective to the very centre of the global luxury conversation.
