British beauty icon Dame Pat McGrath, often hailed as the world’s most influential makeup artist, has been appointed to lead Louis Vuitton’s debut cosmetics line, La Beauté. Known for her groundbreaking artistry at fashion houses including Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, and Gucci, McGrath now brings her unrivaled expertise to the French luxury giant.

La Beauté launches with an ambitious lineup: eight LV Ombre eyeshadow quartets, ten shades of LV Baume lip balm, and 55 shades of LV Rouge lipsticks in satin and matte finishes. The number of lip colors itself is a subtle homage to the Roman numerals “LV.”

This marks McGrath’s first major beauty venture since founding her namesake label, Pat McGrath Labs, a decade ago. With refillable packaging, architectural design details, and a forward-looking sustainability ethos, the collection embodies McGrath’s ability to merge artistry, empowerment, and innovation. Louis Vuitton describes La Beauté as a line that “centres around identity, artistry, empowerment,” echoing McGrath’s long-standing mission of encouraging self-expression through makeup.

McGrath, born in Northampton to Jamaican parents, has long brought a diasporic perspective to global beauty. Her appointment at Louis Vuitton reinforces the influence of British and Caribbean talent on the international fashion and cosmetics industries. The UK beauty sector alone contributes £30.4 billion to GDP, but McGrath’s work underscores its cultural impact far beyond numbers, shaping aesthetics across runways and consumer markets alike.
